But really, San Diego should host it. We're a fantastic city. We're kind and welcoming and have a surprisingly rich reading and young adult culture. People talk about our beaches and surfers and laid-back attitude accents, but what you don't see are the books we're all carrying with us, too. There's nothing like laying out on the sand with a novel in your hands.
Even though there are a lot of young adult authors here (Debra Driza, Kirsten Hubbard, Kiersten White, Shannon Messenger - to name a few), San Diego often gets passed by since we're next to larger cities. I can't tell you how many times I've been told "No, we're not going to there - but we are coming to LA, and that's close!" Sure, maybe LA is close (if a 3 hour drive without traffic is close, anyway), but it misses out on being in San Diego! America's Finest City! We are sunny and gorgeous and relaxed and always ready to help you with directions or give a recommendation of where to go/what to do. And I would be more than ready to help all these authors with their first experience of a true fish taco or California burrito.
