Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Today's topic is:
Top Ten Books To Read In A Day
So I'm kind of assuming this topic means books that you couldn't put down, that you think were worthy of just devouring as soon as possible. Yes? Maybe? We'll just go with it!
I should be banned from choosing this because it is seriously on every. list. ever.
Whenever I talk about this book, I always mention a review I read way back when - I sincerely wish I could remember where I read it (if you know, please tell me so I can give proper credit!) - that said "If I Stay broke me, and Where She Went put me back together." There is so much truth in that. These books are beautiful and stunning and I dare you to start these and even try to set it down before you've finished.
This is one of those books that is so adorable and charming that you have to love it. At just 236 pages, it's entirely possible to read it in a few hours; and I really, really think you should. It's perfect. (Read my review here!)
I debated putting this on here because I think this is actually a book to savor, and it was definitely one I had to set down for small (very, very short) moments because it was all so overwhelming and beautiful I couldn't take it. But I totally powered through it, and I think you need to befriend Hazel and Augustus and Isaac AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. (Read my review here!)
Similar to The Fault In Our Stars (in reaction, not in story), I think this one is meant to be savored -- but it's so beautiful and you just want to hug Lennie and smother Joe in beautiful sunshine-y kisses that you need to read this all at once. (Read my review here and my favourite quotes from the book here!)
I have not read Anna and the French Kiss yet, but I suspect that if I did, it would also be here on this list. In any case, Lola and the Boy Next Door is close to the perfect YA book, filled with fun and personality and love and a sweet boy and just a little heartbreak with a hell of a lot of warmth. You'll fall in love with Lola and Cricket as fast as you should read this.
I think I gushed enough in my review (read it here!), but Bria is one of my most favourite literary characters ever. She is strong and lost and brave and searching and filled with so much to give. Following along her adventure of backpacking through Central America is breathtaking and heart wrenching and stunning and you just get swept into all the adventures. Please, please read it if you haven't.
Included because I couldn't stop reading it when I started: you really feel the torture of Amy as she's stuck on this ship, the quiet hopeless desperation of Elder and Harley as they struggle within the confines of their lives...it's a wonderful Dystopian.
I mention these two a lot because I genuinely believe Rachel & David can do no wrong when they're together; both books are fast and playful, filled with adventure and intrigue and you just get whisked away into the night (or week) with each character as they discover each other and the fullness of life.
Not just because it can be read in a day, but because it's a neat concept of defining terms as a way to tell a story. It's simple in theory but so descriptive of the complexities of life and love and how we struggle to maintain it all together.
What books do you think should be read in a day?

Ooh, great picks! And I'm not just saying that 'cause we share a few titles ;) I haven't yet read Across the Universe, as it seems more sci-fi, but the reviews are just so good.
ReplyDeleteHaha great picks because we have great taste ;) Please PLEASE read ATU, it's so good!
DeleteThanks for commenting! :)
Across the Universe sounds like it might be interesting and John Green's books keeps popping up everywhere. Mandie Baxter reviewed, and liked, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. Not sure I could bring myself to read it though. :)
ReplyDeleteATU is a great book, I recommend it to absolutely anyone who will listen to me (and a lot of people who won't haha). Have you read any of John Green's? because if not, you really, really need to. I recommend starting with Paper Towns or Will Grayson, Will Grayson -- TFiOS is a phenomenal read, but it's intense and would be moreso if you already have an invested interest in John Green's writing.
Deleteand hey, maybe give Statistical Probability a go! It is a cutesy romance book, but it's done so well I think you might still enjoy it. If you do read any of these, email me or tweet me or something and let me know your thoughts! I want to know!

After reading your quotes for "The Sky is Everywhere" it's now in my to-find book. :D I hope my book shop will carry this title soon. :D Great list. Here's my Top ten
ReplyDeleteOhh I hope you find The Sky Is Everywhere, it's so beautiful! The quotes I chose are just a small sampling of how much awesome is in the pages. I wish you lived in the US, I'd send you my book to borrow :( Are you entered in my Giveaway? It's an eligible book to choose if you're picked a winner!

Great picks! I totally agree with The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight - very quick read, but quite sweet. I didn't have Lola on my list, but Anna was there instead!
ReplyDeleteHave a good Tuesday!
Tara @ Hey, Tara
I really need to read Anna, she showed up on so many lists!
DeleteThanks for commenting :)
Thanks for adding Where She Went to the list, it made me want to read it! I've been putting it off for forever now. Also, I really want to read Wanderlove. Sounds adorable.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten Tuesday: http://laurenreadsya.tumblr.com/post/20401887208/top-ten-tuesday-books-to-read-in-a-day
Oh please please PLEASE read Where She Went, especially since you've read If I Stay! It's practically perfect in terms of the first book. And Wanderlove if phenomenal, possibly my Top Read of 2012 so of course I encourage you to read it. If you do read either, let me know what you thought of them!

There is something inherently compelling about YA...something powerful about that time of one's life that drives us to read it, and read it quickly, I think.
ReplyDeleteCiao!
Here's my Top Ten Books to Read in a Day.Let me know what you think of my list!
I think the period of life YA is geared towards speaks so much to all of us because it's one we have such strong emotional attachment to -- it's that time when we're growing and learning and truly becoming an individual and figuring out how that's possible. When you connect with a book that brings you back to that time, it definitely makes you read it quickly.

Great picks! I agree with so many of these books, all the ones I haven't read are on my tbr pile instead! The Sky is Everywhere was so wonderful, you can't help but read it in a day.
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
I totally read The Sky is Everywhere in a morning, ran out to buy my own copy as soon as I set it down, then started to reread it again that night. It's just so much beautiful!
DeleteThanks for commenting!
Some great books on your list (we even share a few). I haven't yet read Dash & Lily or Nick & Norah but both are on my TBR shelf.
ReplyDeleteYes, please read them soon! Nick & Norah is such an adventure, and Dash & Lily is so much fun...though maybe read Dash & Lily when it's super cold out (unsure where you are and your weather - it's currently in the 80s for me!) to get in the right mood!

Oooo I read 'The Lovers Dictionary' in a few hours- I liked it but wasn't crazy about it. I am looking at 'Across the Universe' on my bookshelf right now...do I have time to read it?! Oooo I want to but look at the review copies...hmm I just don't know what to read next!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: http://pocketfulofbooksblogger.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/top-ten-tuesday-books-to-read-in-day.html
Lover's Dictionary is definitely not my favourite David Levithan book, but I think the concept is so interesting and how it's presented is so interesting it's worth the read. And I personally vote for reading ATU RIGHT NOW, but I understand the pressing matters of review copies haha. That said, I totally have tons of review copies to get through, but I'm going to re-read ATU as soon as it arrives in the mail for me Thursday haha.

I'm going to have to check out the Statistical Probability... I keep seeing it on people's lists. I want to read Wanderlove so bad!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten
Statistical Probability is the perfect choice for this list, and I definitely think you need to check it out - you'll absolutely fall in love with it. And I hope you get to read Wanderlove soon, it's a PHENOMENAL book!
DeleteThanks for commenting :)
Spot on with Suzanne Collins, Gayle Forman, and Beth Revis!! All of those were definitely day-reads! Great list! I'm actually reading TFiOS right now & love it, but it's definitely a heavier read than I am used to.
ReplyDeleteGREAT choices! Have you read A Million Suns yet?? It's fantastic, too!
-Em
TFiOS is a very heavy read - I think we all kind of forget that when we hear how much of a tearjerker it is (oddly). But it is beautiful, and I hope you like it in the end! I look forward reading your thoughts on it!
DeleteAnd YES, I read A Million Suns the night it came out because I was so excited! It is a great book, delivered just as ATU did. Can you believe we have to wait a whole YEAR now for the last book? I don't think I'll survive.
Thanks for commenting! :)
Great picks! I've read half of those in the list and I totally agree with your pick on no 1, 3, 4 & 6. I devoured that in just hours! Awesome list!

Thanks! Loving your list, i can't believe I forgot about Meg Cabot books - hers are the perfect light fluffy reads!

All of your books are either some of my favorites or books I've been meaning to get to. Since I totally judge people by what they read, I'm a new follower. :)
ReplyDeletehahah I think that is the perfect way to judge people, and I'm glad I passed inspection! Thanks for commenting and following! :)
DeleteAmazing list, and I know I need to read some of the titles on your list. Yay for Dash & Lily making it on your list! It's such a short and sweet read, you can definitely finish it in a day. :D I really need to check out The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight (whew! That's some title!) and definitely Lola and the Boy Next Door. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to read The Statistical Probability (I love when I see people acronym it, because I feel like that takes SO much more thought than just typing it out haha) soon! It's such a great, cute little read; and since it's so short you can reread it whenever you want! haha
DeleteThanks for commenting!
Great list!! I still have to read Where She Went.. If I Stay really did break me.. so gutwrenching!!
ReplyDeleteBeen meaning to read Dash & Lily.. forever! I even have it on my kobo already.. no excuses. :P
Thanks for stopping by :)

Ohhh please please PLEASE read Where She Went as soon as possible, especially since you've read If I Stay! It is absolutely perfect and heart wrenching in a great way. And yes, no excuses for not reading Dash & Lily yet! It's such a fun read.
DeleteThanks for commenting :)
Great picks! I couldn't agree with you more. There are so many books that I could have added to the 10 but, that would defeat the "10" ;)
ReplyDeleteIf I Stay was great.
Happy Reading

Haha I know, who knew Ten would be so limiting? I was so tempted to just put half my Books I've Read list on here.
DeleteThanks for commenting and following!
I don't know anyone who didn't devour The Hunger Games trilogy! When LOLA came out I had pre-ordered and it showed up on my Kindle at midnight. I stayed up and read it in one sitting. LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteI've not read The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, but EVERYONE is talking about it. I need to add it to my vacation book list. This is a must.
I was totally not expecting to love Lola so much or get so hooked into it, so I started reading it on a lunch break at work -- TOTALLY read it through the rest of the day. Tried to work, but couldn't stop reading, it was just so good.
DeleteOooh reading Statistical Probability during a vacation would be PERFECT - it's so sweet and cute and you'll love Oliver.
Thanks for commenting!

Deletegreat list. i haven't read lola yet because i am saving it. i know i'll want to just read the whole thing once i start. i am really hoping that my copy of statistical probability comes in from the library this week, too. i have been dying to read it.
ReplyDeletemy top ten tuesday
yes, definitely start reading Lola when you have a few free hours because you won't be able to put it down! I made the mistake of starting it on my lunch break during work and that just ruined all hope of being productive at my job for the rest of the day haha.
DeleteThanks for commenting!
Great list! I've been seeing The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight on a lot of people's lists today so maybe I should check it out. In fact, I think I should check out most of the books on this list =P
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog earlier today =)
Yes you definitely need to check out The Statistical Probability! It's just so sweet and lovable (and the boy is adorable, too!)!
DeleteThanks for commenting!
Awesome list! I completely agree on The Hunger Games, Gayle Forman's books, Lola and the Boy Next Door (and Anna too!), Statistical Probability and The Lover's Dictionary. SUCH GOOD PICKS! Wanderlove is seriously moving to the top of my to-read list because everyone seems to love it. Same with The Sky is Everywhere. Thanks for stopping by my list :)
ReplyDeleteWanderlove needs to be at the top of your list! Both Wanderlove and The Sky is Everywhere are vying for my Top 2012 read right now, I swear it changes every other minute because they're both just so beautiful. If/when you do read them, let me know your thoughts!
DeleteThanks for commenting :)
Great choices! Love 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9... and 5 is on my "must read soon!" list!
ReplyDeleteAhhh please read The Sky is Everywhere soon! When you do, let me know your thoughts :)
DeleteThanks for commenting!
What a fantastic list! A bunch of these are on my gigantic TBR pile. Good to know they're quick reads. Here's my Top Ten. Would love for you to stop by.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do read them soon (though I definitely know how massive our TBR lists are haha)!
DeleteThanks for commenting :)
Excellent list! Dash and Lily was the perfect prepping for Christmas read this last season. I'll be reading TFioS in the next few weeks...dreading it as much as I'm looking forward to it to be honest. I'll know to tackle it on a day off!
ReplyDeleteI read Dash & Lily right around thanksgiving last year and it was really the perfect book for the holiday. And dreading and looking forward to TFiOS is shockingly accurate haha - I was putting off reading it for the longest time since I'd heard so much, but you will feel so much love and emotion and just EVERYTHING once you do. Let me know your thoughts on it!
DeleteThanks for commenting!
After seeing your list, it makes me think that our bookshelves are very similar. I love these books! David Levithan's books are so great. I've included one on almost all of my Top Ten lists.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
Agreed on David Levithan! He's one of the few authors where I will auto-read anything he writes or edits.
DeleteThanks for commenting!
Great picks! I agree with you about HG - I came a little late to the game, but ended up reading all three books on Saturday XD. Yeah, I pretty much shut myself in all day, lol, but sooo worth it!
ReplyDeleteStill need to read Across the Universe, because a book set in a space ship? Automatic love!
New follower here, btw :).
I was late reading THG too, I read it right when Mockingjay came out since it was EVERYWHERE -- and I have to say, I powered through all three as soon as possible, and I was kind of glad I didn't have to wait on any of them haha. And yes, please read ATU soon! It's such an incredible book.
DeleteThanks for commenting and following!
Wow this is a great list! It's like a list of all my favorite books, practically. Except I haven't read the Statistical Probability...but I've been meaning to. Thanks for checking out my list, Ashley.
